Humanity United CEO visits Liberian entrepreneurs

Humanity United has supported a range of work in Liberia since 2007. This has included the development of a civil society network and independent media, as well as initiatives to promote conflict early warning, good governance, job creation. Today, we are focused on helping Liberia achieve equitable economic growth and development.

As Liberia grows, the role of entrepreneurs and impact investing becomes all the more critical – especially for the creation of jobs. Small and medium size businesses have the potential to provide significant employment opportunities, thus contributing to the country’s stability and peace.

This is why Humanity United partnered with Virgin Unite, SPARK and the Branson Center for Entrepreneurship to provide advanced training and mentoring support for a group of leading Liberian entrepreneurs.

This week, I had the opportunity to spend time with some of the entrepreneurs taking part in this program, and I heard directly from them about the new skills they are developing that will help them strengthen and build their businesses. Our partners SPARK and the Business Start-up Center Monrovia have done a great job successfully managing the program so far. Even as these entrepreneurs learn about leadership and develop skills in accounting, finance, marketing and technology, it is clear that these leaders also hold much potential to be a force for change in their country.

It was personally inspiring to me to engage with these Liberians who are working hard to rebuild their country. As Liberia continues to transform from a post-conflict environment, these entrepreneurs are well aware of the opportunity they have to bolster business and economic development in this once volatile nation. They are equally aware of the role they can play to be a powerful catalyst for peace.

I look forward to hearing more from this inspiring group in years ahead.
